This was just awesome

March 10, 2008

So, I have been trying to pour into the lives of the seventh grade students in my small group. This includes trying to call them once a week, visiting the school lunch once a week, playing football/ultimate after school once a week and leading their small group on Wednesday nights. It has been a lot of fun and challenging for me. Some of the guys are really easy to get along with, and some of them try to cause trouble just so that I will pay attention to them. I think that the best technique is to be hard on them and try to proactively pay attention to them so that they don’t feel like they have to cause trouble.

I received an email today from a staff member redirecting an email, from a mom, sent to the church because the person misspelled my name.

“I really just wanted to say that I am really grateful and thank God for [my son]’s Ignite Group Leader, John Fowler. This man really shows his support for his pre-teens. He showed up for [his] track meet on Thursday, March 6. [He] was surprised! Believe it or not, this support impacted [his] performance in his runs. So thank you John and thank you God for sending and using this saved man in my son’s life.”

That is just part of what was going on. I got to see two other guys run at the event what come to the church and was also able to take a guy from a high school that we don’t get to visit very often because of its distance from the church.

After the game of ultimate today, one of the guys got picked up by his grandma, who told me that she was thankful for the influence that I was having on her grandson’s life. The crazy thing is that today was his second day coming out to play and last Wednesday was his first time coming to student ministry. How good is God to work so quickly in that student’s life.

Two weeks ago, one of the guys who has become plugged in because of the after school activities received Jesus’ forgiveness into his life. I can’t explain how amazing the movement of God is in these guys lives!
