Last night, someone informed me that my worst fears could be put aside.  I was a huge fan of Peter Pan Reduced Fat Peanut Butter.  It is the best in the world, bar none.  Almost a year ago there was a machinery foul up at the Peter Pan facility and all of their product was pulled off of the shelves in grocers around the country.  This about broke my heart.  I did not know if they would ever produce the reduced fat line again because all of the stores that began carrying the regular versions no longer carried the reduced fat variety.  I began to accept the fact that I would have to wade through mediocre peanut butter for the rest of my life… but then the call came.  Super Bilo in Greenville was carrying the elixir of delight.

(side note) This incident also gave me confidence in the company.  There was enough integrity in the company to pull everything for the safety of the consumer, even though only one batch from only one facility had been deemed unsafe.  They also offered to purchase a jar of their competitor’s product to replace any unsafe jars that a consumer may have purchased before the warning went out.  That is how you inspire brand loyalty.

I had grown fond of the stuff and was not particularly impressed with anyone else’s product.  The closest thing I could find to a satisfying spoon of peanut butter was the Skippy All-Natural No Stir.  Still good, but not the magic to which I had grown accustomed.

Needless to say, the call last night was music to my ears.

Not sure what to do

March 11, 2008

I still have this desire inside of me to go to Africa some day. I don’t know when that opportunity will arise. I think the desire started when I was much younger, maybe 12 or so. At the CMA church of which I used to be a member, I had the fortune of meeting many missionaries. They told amazing stories of adventures, people who were very different from me and of what God was doing in his world. I believe it was then that the smallest seed of curiosity was planted. By the time I reached college, I was able to take courses about any subject I fancied. I took a few which touched on Africa, its history and its geography. I was sold. I needed to go see it for myself. I needed to affect change. I needed to help whoever and however I could.

So, it still comes down to waiting to see what happens in the near future – what direction my life takes.
