Oatmeal Sensation!
March 18, 2008
Once again, my food craving has been assuaged by the kindness of Sydney. I used to work at Ben & Jerry’s in Clemson while I was wrapping up my final semester in undergrad (not that I went to grad or anything). There were some outstanding flavors to enjoy while I was working there, including: Chunky Monkey, Phish Food, Dublin Mudslide and Cherry Garcia. My favorite, hands down, was Oatmeal Cookie Chunk. This was perfection in a dish. Sweet cream cinnamon flavored ice cream mixed with chunks of oatmeal cookie dough and chocolate fudge. I could worship God while eating the stuff. Long story short, the store stopped carrying it and I haven’t been able to find it at any of the stores that I frequent… until today. Good news in the form of a pint of OCC. I think I am going to enjoy this tonight with a little help from my friend (Beatles/Wonder Years anyone?).
Isaiah encounters God
March 18, 2008
I just found this while going through the “my documents” folder of my work computer. This is from a set of devotions that we used in the student ministry for Middle School students last year.
Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-8
Thoughts: Have you ever encountered something so huge that you did not know what to do with yourself? It could be anything from meeting a celebrity to looking off the side of a mountain at a valley below. When we see God as He truly is, we encounter something so huge and indescribable that we sometimes don’t know what to do with Him.
That is exactly what happened to Isaiah. Now, Isaiah was a young man when this event took place, and it was like he got tickets to a Justin Timberlake concert. He was able to be front row with the biggest name in the country, and he was probably a little freaked out. Then the angels turn up the bass and the whole place starts to shake as they sing the first song to God.
He got to see God and he heard the angels calling out His praises. Notice that the angels said “holy, holy, holy…” Not only is God perfect, but He is so perfect that they had to emphasize that point three times. If you are perfect and don’t sin, you can stop reading this right now. If not, you should keep reading.
Isaiah was not perfect and to be in the presence of something perfect you feel the need to be perfect yourself. Isaiah could not help himself; he had to rely on God taking care of his sins. That is how we must be. We cannot experience God correctly until we allow him to take care of our sins.
Check out what happens next: God asks for someone to go do His work and because Isaiah had been forgiven and was ready, God was able to send him.
Prayer: Ask God to help you be right with Him. Ask Him to reveal the areas of your life that are out of line with His holiness. Tell Him that you are here for Him to use and send.
Closing Question: What does God want me to do and where does He want me to go?
